Homelessness can be caused by Family Violence, Mental health issues, Physical health issue e.g. accidents at work and bills mounting up, Loss of employment, under-employment or inability to gain a new job, Limited housing/rental stress, Drug and alcohol addiction (an RMIT University study showed that 50% of homeless with addiction problems got them AFTER being homeless) Traumatic Experiences.
116,427 Australians are homeless and needlessly suffering. Tonight 49,200 people will sleep rough on the street across Australia this year (ABS 2016). In 2017-2018: 44,116 people requesting short-term or emergency accommodation did not receive any or were only given a referral; in 2017-2018: 99,370 people needed long term accommodation but did not receive any or were only given a referral.
Fact.
There is not enough shelter, and governments ignore the basic human right of dignity.
